Trinamool Congress plans independent comission for land acquisition

Kolkata, June 2 (UNI) The Trinamool Congress-led West Bengal Democratic Front (WBDF) has decided to set up an Independent Commission to find out how much agricultural land has been acquired by the Left Front government from the farmers in the state.

''The Commission will be formed by the farm experts within two or three days and we will organise a movement against the ruling government after receiving the commission reports,'' TMC Chairperson Mamata Banerjee told newspersons here.

The ruling Left Front government is misleading the people and doing drama in the name of industrialisation, she said.

She also alleged that a land scam could happen in the near future.

She said a WBDF delegation team would visit the Singur district on June 6 where they will talk with the farmers whose lands were acquired by the state government.

Also a ''save land'' convention would be held there on June 17 and 22.

''We are the opposition party and would cooperate with the government for setting up industrialisation in the state,'' she said.

This is the right to information regime, so government should publish a white paper to the people within seven days that how many agricultural lands have been acquired and how many lands were captured from the farmers for the industry, Ms Banerjee demands.

To a query about Left Front stir against the centre about the petro hikes, she replied that it was a mere show from the state by opposing the petro hike for if they really meant to oppose it they can show it by withdrawing their support to the Centre.

Ms Banerjee said, '' the President of India has taken a right decision about the Office of Profit Bill and we think that the centre would not pass it forcibly.'' Referring to a query, Ms Banerjee replied ''we condemn the United Progressive Alliance government for rejection of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Commission report and also would not allow his ash to be brought back to the country''.
