Tamil Nadu's Raajakumar sets a new meet record

New Delhi, June 2(UNI) Tamil Nadu's S Raajakumar created the only meet record of the second National Combined Event Competition which concluded here today.

Raajakumar scored 4752 points to create new meet record in the boys under 18 years Octathlon event which compromises eight events in two spans and Raajakumar performance in all eight events is as follows 100m: 12.17s (618), Long Jump 6.56m (711), Shot Put 11.10m (552), 400m 55.81s (567), 110m hurdles 15.55s (784), High Jump 1.77m (602), Javelin Throw 29.06m (286), 1000m 3:03.31s (632).

Second place went to C Gnanapandian of Tamilnadu with 4566 points while G Rajesh of Andhra Pradesh took third place with 4496 points.

Interestingly all the top four finishers in the boys Octathlon event bettered the meet record of 4464 points of Deepan Kumar set in Chennai last year.

In the Men's Decathlon, P J Vinod of Kerala finished first with 6312 points which was way below his personal best of 7383 points.

''I would be in shape in coming months as I recently joined the camp after two month interval and that's why I don't wanted to take risk of exerting my self in order to avoid any injury,'' said after winning the title of the Best Athlete of the Event Competition.

In the girls under 16 years Pentathlon (which compromises five events) G M Aishwarya of Karnataka took the honor with 2923 points while B. Azaruddin of Tamilnadu won Boys under 16 years Pentathlon title with 3265 points.

N Leelavathy of Tamilnadu and Natasha Sagar, lone athletes in the Women and Girls under 18 years Heptathlon event scored 4599 and 4287 points respectively.
