Swaminathan to be adviser in proposed farmers' commission
Kolkata, June 2 (UNI) Renowned agriculture scientist and chairman of National Commission on Farmers M S Swaminathan would be the adviser to the proposed farmers' commission to be set up in West Bengal to look into issues of land, agriculture, horticulture and marketing of produce.
State Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and Dr Swaminathan met here recently and exchanged views on ways to make contract farming beneficial to farmers.
Mr Bhattacharjee indicated that the proposed commission would look into issues of land, cropping, harvesting, marketing and pricing.
The chief minister along with Finance Minister Asim Dasgupta would formulate the terms of reference of the commission.
