Stock Markets spurt in the opening trade today

Mumbai, Jun 2: The BSE Sensex spurted in the opening trade by 33 points due to value buying and ease in global oil prices.

At 1037 hrs, the BSE Sensex was up 257 points or 2.66 per cent, to 10,332.26, touching a high of 10,342.26 and a low of 10,011.45.

At 1245 hrs, the Sensex was trading at 10,263 points, a gain of 193 points.

However, the BSE Mid-cap index lost 3.42 per cent, while the BSE Smallcap index plunged 4.67 per cent. A whole host of stocks, especially from these indices were severely affected in the mid- morning session.

The top gainers in the mid morning trade were Maruti Udyog up by 6.78 per cent, Tata Motors up by 4.67 per cent, HDFC up by 3.28 per cent, ONGC up by 3.25 per cent, Hindalco up by 3.24 per cent, Ranbaxy was up by 3.06 per cent, HLL up by 2.84 per cent, ACC up by 2.30 per cent, Wipro up by 2.26 per cent and TCS was up by 2.11 per cent.

Besides, the losers on the sensex were - Reliance Energy, Reddy Labs, Tata Power, Cipla NTPC, L&T and Satyam all down between 0.2 to 3.5 per cent mark.
