Showrooms selling fake goods to tourists raided in Kashmir

Srinagar, Jun 2 (UNI) The authorities have raided several business establishments in Kashmir following complaints that these were deceiving tourists by selling fake goods to them.

A team of officials of the Handicrafts Department raided several shops and showrooms in the city and found that the owners had not complied with orders regarding display of price lists and quality labels to distinguish between the original Kashmiri and non-Kashmiri spurious goods for convenience of the tourists.

The team seized the registration certificates and some items with fake labels and booked the defaulting shopkeepers and showroom owners under the Tourist Trade Act.

The officials also recommended action against two showrooms -- Sharief and Co and Cosmos Arts at the Boulevard Road -- for illegal display of Jammu and Kashmir government on their signboards. They seized the signboards with bill books of the showrooms.

The team also inspected some areas in the tourist resort of Gulmarg and fined some defaulters. The officials seized some spurious goods from their establishments.
