Showroom in Paris to sell Lucknow chikan, Banarasi saree

Lucknow, June 2 (UNI) Encouraged by the demand of Lucknow Chikan, Banarasi saree and carpet of Bhadoi in the world market, Uttar Pradesh government has decided to open a showroom at the International Trade Zone in Paris to sell these products.

UP small industry and export promotion minister Jagdish Singh Rana said the showroom would be opened up in Paris soon, which would earn foreign revenue.

Recently, UP participated at an International Trade Fair in Paris where export items including Lucknow Chikan, Banarasi saree and Bhadohi carpet were showcased. The entire consignment was solf off in record time.

Addressing a news conference here, Mr Rana said UP government had sold items worth over Rs 45 lakh at the Trade Fair in Paris.

Claiming that Lucknow chikan, Banarasi saree and Bhadohi carpet were much in demand globally, he said all efforts would be made to train artisans engaged in the profession, so that quality products were made for export purpose.

Similarly, Mr Rana said, the glassware of Ferozabad and brassware of Moradabad were also in great demand.

UP has identified 48 organisations for export of Lucknow chikan.

''The artisans in these units would be trained for producing items conforming to international standards,'' he said.
