Showers, cool winds bring down mercury by ten degrees

New Delhi, June 2 (UNI) Cool winds and light showers today brought down the mercury by as much as ten degrees Celsius, bringing tremendous relief to the people of Delhi from the sultry weather.

The winds and showers, which weatherman said are an offshoot of the upper air cyclonic storm originating from Haryana and its neighbouring areas, hit the capital early this morning and plummeted the maximum temperature to 31.7 Degree C today, from 41 Degree C.

About 1.4 mm of rainfall was recorded in the capital since 0800 hours, the weather office said.

Weatherman said the rainfall was largely in traces and limited to some areas of the capital.

The wind and rain brought about a pleasant weather in the capital, which has been experiencing sultry conditions since early this week.

The cooleness in the air was likely to remain tomorrow also with the weather office forecasting a generally cloudy sky with more rain and thundershowers over the next 24 hours.
