Security tightened in temples, mosques in TN

Chennai, Jun 2 (UNI) Heightened security measures have been put in place in all the temples and other places of worship in Tamil Nadu in the wake of abortive bid made by the terrorists to blow up the RSS headquarters in Nagpur, yesterday.

Police sources told UNI that security has been tightened in all major temples in the state and in Chennai city.

''The security arrangements that are already in force continues and passengers and their bags are thoroughly screened before they are allowed inside the temple complexes'', the sources said.

In Chennai city, police pickets were deployed in front of major temples like the Parthasarathy and Kapaleeswarar temples and in front of mosques.

Patrolling, especially night patrol, has also been intensified to monitor the movement of anti-social elements in the city.

Security arrangements have been tightened in all the Railway stations in the State. Metal detectors were installed and Bomb detection squad officials were making round the clock searches in the stations.

Police said officials were keeping a close watch on the arrival of Sri Lankan refugees in Rameswaram, where the ancient Lord Ramanathaswamy temple was situated. ''The identity of all the refugees are being verified before they are sent to the Refugees Camp at Mandapam'', the sources said.
