Rupee jumps 1 pc; closes at 45.90/91/USD

Mumbai, June 2 (UNI) The Indian currency today jumped one per cent to close at the weeks high of 45.90/US Dollar compared to the previous close of 45.35/36/US Dollar on the back of continuing foreign fund outflow, as well as reduction in the global crude oil prices, a dealer in the forex market said.

Earlier, the Indian currency opened strong by 10 paise at 46.26/27/USD as compared to the last close of 46.35/36.

The Rupee traded at 46.19/USD in the mid-morning session.

Also, the equity markets' benchmark index BSE Sensex today closed 380 points up, leading to strengthening of the currency.

The Reserve Bank of India fixed the rupee reference rate at Rs 46.17 per US dollar, five paise up from yesterday's rate of 46.22.

The six-month forward premia ended higher at 0.71 per cent from the previous close of 0.65 per cent.

The one-year forward premia, too, ended higher at 0.89 per cent from the previous close of 0.85 per cent.

The cross-currency closing rate for rupee against euro was 58.76 up by seven paise from the previous close of 58.83 for pound sterling it was down by 64 paise at (85.91), and for Japanese Yen it was 40.64 (40.80), up by 16 paise from the previous close.
