Bhubaneswar, Jun 2 (UNI) The Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has registered an all time record production in hot metal, crude steel and salable steel during May.

A RSP release said the production of hot metal was 1,87,035 tonne, crude steel was 1,73,132 tonne and saleable steel was ,75,997 tonne during the month of May.

The production growth as compared to May 2005 was phenomenal 53 per cent in hot metal, 52.6 per cent in crude steel, 64.8 per cent in saleable steel and 52.4 per cent in the area of dispatches of saleable steel.

Incidentally, saleable steel production during the month was the highest ever for any month of May since inception of the plant. All major departments of RSP such as Sinter Plant-II, Blast Furnaces Ore Bedding and Blending Plant, Steel Melting Shop, Hot Strip Mill and Plate Mill operated at more than 100 per cent of rated capacity during the month contributing outstanding performance of the steel plant.

RSP sources said the thrust has also been given to the performance of the plant in the areas of techno-economic parameters which have shown significant improvement in coke rate and energy consumption.

With its Blast Furnaces performing at more than 100 per cent of rated capacity, RSP is now capable of reaching and even surpassing the dream figure of 2 million tonnes of hot metal production during the fiscal.

This would help the steel plant to fully meet the requirement of downstream units catering to the production of crude steel and finished products enhancing its profitability, the sources said.
