Rahul Mahajan in ICU for suspected poisoning
New Delhi, June 2: The condition of Rahul Mahajan, son of Late BJP General Secretary Pramod Mahajan, continues to be critical after being admitted to Apollo Hospital here this morning following suspected 'poisoning'.
''He continues to be critical but his vital organs are stable. He has been put on ventilator,'' a hospital spokesperson said.
It was too early to say what was the cause and results of tests, including blood test, would be known later in the day, she said.
Rahul's blood pressure was low and a team of doctors were continously monitoring him, she added.
Rahul along with Pramod Mahajan's Private Secretary Vivek Moitra had been brought to the hospital at 0315 hrs by two servants, Ganesh and Anil. Moitra was declared brought dead.
Rahul's blood pressure, respiratory rate and oxygen levels were low and efforts were being made to stabilise these after admitting him to the ICU.
Doctors suspected Rahul's case as one of 'toxification in the normal course' but were examining all other angles.
Police was informed at 0500 hrs by security officials at the hospital.
A case had been registered and the police was probing all possibilities, including foul play, DCP (New Delhi) Delhi Manish Agarwal said.
Police had also initiated inquest proceedings into Moitra death.
Rahul Mahajan was in news recently when he atttended the BJP's National Executive meeting in Delhi on May 29 and 30. Speculation about his name being proposed to the Rajya Sabha was set at rest just two days ago when the party made it clear that neither Rahul nor Rekha, wife of the late leader's wife would contest the June 15 Rajya Sabha poll.
"They will not contest in the election and the BJP's nominee would be announced soon," a senior leader had said.
