Pre-monsoon showers lash Rajasthan

Jaipur, June 2 : With the pre-monsoon showers becoming active in Rajasthan, the extreme heat wave has given way to a pleasant weather, providing respite to people reeling under the seering sun.

All parts of the state are experiencing heavy to light rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms and the temperatures have seen a fall of 3-4 degree Celsius.

Udaipur recorded 63.5 mm of rainfall Chittorgarh 45.2 mm and Kota recorded 44.6 mm till 0830 hrs, in the morning today.

Jhalawar experienced 30 mm of rainfall, Bhilwara 28 mm, Bijolia 29 mm and Jaipur 9.8 mm and Pratapgarh 47 mm.

The state capital has been experiencing light drizzle from 0600 hrs in the morning. Intermittent rains have considerably reduced the temperature in Jaipur.

According to weather officials, the pre-monsoon showers are likely to continue for a week and will see a fall of 3-4 degree centigrades.

A weather official said:''As monsoon has already approached Mumbai and Gujarat this year, Rajasthan can also expect an early onset of monsoon this year.'' The temperatures are not likely to rise again in the days to come, say weather officials.

The minimum temperatures recorded this morning have tumbled down several notches with Rawatbhata recording 18 degree Celsius, Sawai Madhopur 20 degrees, Dabok 22, Kota 24, Jhalawar 25, Jaisalmer and Jodhpur 28 degrees.
