Over 700 to take part in Karate Championship

Bangalore, Jun 2 (UNI) More than 700 karatekas, including 160 women, will be vying for top honours in the Sixth National Karate Championship (Shito-Ryu) to be held in Kanteerava Indoor Stadium here from tomorrow.

Informing this to reporters here today, All India Shito-Ryu Karate Federation President C S Arun Machaiah, MLC, said defending Champion in Individual category Tamil Nadu and last year Team Champion Karnataka were fielding strong contigents.

Karatekas from Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat would be participating in the event.

The Championship would run as selection trial for selecting the Indian team for the Shito-ryu Karate-do World Championship to be held in Tokyo, Japan, in September.
