New nutrition policy to be formulated

Bhopal, June 2 (UNI) Aimed at formulating a new nutrition policy at the national-level, regional consultation workshops are underway to devise strategies for reducing malnutrition and improving the nutrition level.

After the regional consultations at Bangalore, Chandigarh and Pune, a two-day workshop involving the central zone states of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan is scheduled here from June 9.

Union Minister for Women and Child Development Renuka Choudhary and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will be present at the inauguration of the workshop.

Senior officials of the Women and Child Development, Public Health Engineering and Health and Family Welfare departments, besides representatives from the field of primary education, panchayati raj institutions and the board of food and nutrition will attend it, official sources said.

The workshop aims at discussing the schemes, programmes and successful experiment for reducing the rate of malnutrition and improving the nutrition level.

On the basis of the deliberations at the regional workshops and review of the nutrition status at the national-level, the process for formulating the new nutrition policy will be commenced, the sources added.
