Naval Institute celebrates golden jubilee
Kochi, Jun 2 (UNI) The Naval Institute of Aeronautical Technology, a premier aviation technical training establishment of the Indian Navy, is celebrating its golden jubilee here.
Southern Naval Command's, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Vice Admiral SCS Bangara inaugurated the celebrations yesterday.
As part of the celebrations at the Southern Naval Base, a national symposium on ''Emerging technologies and flights of the future'' was held today.
The Vice Admiral stated the armed forces in a developing country like India very often used high-tech imported equipment.
''It is essential the armed forces understand and asssimilate the technologies being employed, but more importantly, to interact with academia, R&D and industry and define applications for cutting edge technologies which will be of great importance in operational environment,'' he said.
Vice Admiral D S P Varma, Chief of Material and the senior most Technical Officer of the Navy, who spoke on the occasion, drew attention to the challenges of inducting, adapting and maintaining cutting edge technologies, especially in high tech areas like aerospace.
Rear Admiral D Deshpande, Admiral Suprintendent of Naval Dockyard, Vishakapatnam and Rear Admiral Rajender Singh, Chief of Staff at the Southern Naval Command were also present.
Prof Job Kurien, Head of the Department of Aerospace Engineering, IIT Madras delivered the keynote address on 'Aerospace scenario in India - Current status and challenges ahead.' UNI JA VV GM VD BD1549
