Mulayam lays foundation of media centre

Lucknow, June 2 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav today laid the foundation of a media centre in Gomti Nagar area of Uttar Pradesh capital.

He also announced Rs 50 lakh assistance for its construction.

Addressing a gathering, Mr Yadav said the Centre would play an important role in bringing small and medium newspapers of different languages at one place.

The CM maintained the Centre should be completed within six months, while the amount of assistance would be released within a week.

''A conspiracy is being hatched to weaken the institution of democracy and the media should come forward to counter it,'' said Mr Yadav.

Referring to development, Mr Yadav observed that media should raise the issue related to rural populace and play its role in checking corruption and dictatorial mentality.

''The media is within its rights to criticise the government, but at the same time it should also appreciate the good work.'' The Samajwadi Party supremo claimed the roots of journalism were very deep.
