Malayalam actors body to produce film

Kochi, Jun 2(UNI) If all the big stars of Malayalam film world come together for a single movie ? That wild dream of many fans is going to be real soon when Association of Malayalam Movie Actors (AMMA) is making its premier film.

Superstars Mammootty, Mohanlal, Dileep, Suresh Gopi and Jayaram will be among the super cast along with most of the arstistes in the movie, to be directed by Joshi.

AMMA, which led a protracted battle with producers and put the industry into crisis in the past when they staged star shows, has this time chosen the film-production to raise funds for helping its members and giving pensions.

The preliminary works for the movie started here yesterday with producer-actor Dileep handing over the first installment of donation to AMMA president Innocent.

Due to technical difficulties, the association has entrusted the production of the movie to the banner of Dileep who will give Rs 1 crore to the actors' body. And the actors would work without remuneration. Siby K Thomas-Udayakrisha will pen the script for the movie.

It will be a tough task to accomodate all stars, with due importance and rise upto the expectations of fans of each star. But we want to make a complete family entertainer,'' the script-writer said.

AMMA broke the idea after their yearly stage shows for the purpose and telecast of the same by satellite channels run into trouble, with Film Chamber of Commerce opposing it last year. The association set up a committee to study the matter and finally began the works after long discussions.

The association gives monthly pension of Rs 2000 each to 42 aged artists besides timely assistance to those ailing, orphaned and the needy members. It has also plans to launch health insurance for the members.
