Kerala Pollution Control Awards announced

Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 2 (UNI) The Hindustan Newsprint Ltd, Kottayam has won the Kerala State Pollution Control Awards for 2006 under the larger industries category.

The SKOL Breweries Ltd, Thrissur, and The AVT Natural Products Ltd, Vazhakulam, Ernakulam bagged second and third places in the same category for maintaining the procedures stipulated by the Board in arresting Pollution, Health Minister P K Sreemathy said while announcing the awards.

The state award for medium scale industries went to SUD CHEMIE India Pvt Ltd, Ernakulam. The second went to Hindustan Lever Ltd, Alappuzha while the third place was bagged by the Southern Refineries and POABS Granites Ltd, both based here.

In the small scale industry sector, there was no first place. The second place was bagged by GALA Ice Creams Pvt Ltd, Pathanamthita and the third place by Premier Granites, Kottayam.

For hospital waste management, Al Shifa hospital, Malappuram, won the first place and KIMS, Anayara, Thiruvananthapuram, the second place.

The third place was shared by Maria Theresa Hospital, Thrissur and Josgiri Hospital, Kannur.

In the medium range hospitals, the first place went to Royal Hospital, Thrissur and the second to Vinayaka Hospital, Wayanad. The Thalassery Mission Hospital Pvt Ltd, Thalassery got the third place.

The Coconut Lagoon, Kumarakom, Kottayam, was chosen for the first place in the Hotel category. The Marari Beach, Mararikulam, came second and The Spice Village, Thekkady the third.

Among the Local bodies, the Attingal Municipality, Thiruvananthapuram and the Koylandi Municipality, Kozhikode, shared the second position.

The first two awards in each category carries cash prizes ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 25,000. The first two awards in each category carry cash prizes ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 25,000.

All winners will receive merit certificates. The awards would be presented on June five.
