Jung misses yet another Olympic quota in Milan World Cup

New Delhi, Jun 2 (UNI) There seems no end to Samresh Jung's woes and the ace marksman, adjudged best athlete of the Melbourne Commonwealth Games, missed yet another Olympic quota place, finishing a poor 43rd in the men's 10m Air Pistol event at the ISSF World Cup in Milan.

Jung has had a poor run since the high in Melbourne where he won five Gold, one Silver and a Bronze medals and bagged the Dave Dixon award after being named as the Best Athlete of the Commonwealth Games.

Since then, Jung has been struggling to find his form and it was the same story in Milan where he aggregated 574 with a series of 97,95,95,96,95,96 to finish 43rd.

Compatriot Ronak Pandit fared slightly better, finishing 28th with a score of 576 (94,94,96,99,96,97).

Vivek Singh finished 46th with a score of 574 (96,96,98,94,94,96).

The Gold in this event was won by Zongliang Tan of China with a score of 683.8 (582+101.8), Last week, Tan had won the Gold in the Munich World Cup as well.

The Silver and the Olympic quota place was won by Tanyu Kiriakov of Bulgaria with a score of 683.5 (585+98.5) while Franck Dumoulin of France won the Bronze with a score of 682.9 (583+99.9).

In 10m Air Pistol event for women, Annuraj Singh finished 23rd.

The Indian shooter shot a score of 379 with a series of 95,94,95 and 95.

Among other Indians in the fray, Shweta Chowdhary finished 60th with a score of 373 (93,93,90,97) while Sonia Rai, who won a Bronze at the Resende World Cup, finished 81st with a score of 369 (94,93,89,93).

The Gold in this event was won by 1988 Olympic Gold medallist Jasna Sekaric of Serbia with a score of 484.6 (384 +100.6), while the Silver was won by Jie Ren of China with a score of 484.6 (385+99.6).

In the shoot off to decide the Gold and the Silver medal, Sekaric shot 9.8 as compared to 9.7 shot by Jie. The Bronze was won by Maria Grozdeva of Bulgaria with a score of 482.7 (384+98.7).

The Olympic Quota place was won by Sandra Kolly of Switzerland who finished fifth in the event, according to information received here today.
