Intelligence warns of fidayeen attack in Dal Lake

Srinagar, June 2: Security forces were put on alert in the Dal Lake area today after intelligence inputs warned of a possible fidayeen attack.

Official sources said a message was flashed to security forces deployed in the Dal Lake area that militants will carry out an attack on a hotel.

The alert was flashed after intercepting messages between militants suggesting an attack in the area.

The particular hotel was searched by the security forces and additional personnel wearing bullet proof jackets and holding automatic weapons were deployed there to thwart any such attack.

All the suspected persons were being frisked and a close watch is being kept on vehicles plying in the area.

We will not lower the guard till tonight as there is definite information about the attack, sources said adding we will not take any chance since there were two grenade blasts on May 31 in which one tourist was killed and 27 others from Bengal were injured.
