First meeting of Games Apex committee held

New Delhi, June 2 (UNI) To set the ball rolling, the all powerful apex committee of the Commonwealth Games 2010 today held its first meeting to make an appraisal of the preparations for the mega sports Event.

All the members of the committee headed by Sports Minister Mani Shankar Aiyer showed keen interest in facilitating the organisation of the Games in the best possible manner.

Welcoming the members, Mr Aiyar acknowledged that the background of the members had brought the multidimensional expertise and experience required for providing critical inputs for successful execution of an event of the nature of Commonwealth Games 2010.

Detailed presentations were made by the stakeholders before the Committee and Mr Aiyer said all the observations made in the meeting will be sent to the respective stakeholders, specially, the Chairman of the Organising Committee, Lt Governor and Chief Minister of Delhi for their comments and, thereafter, the Committee shall draw its plan for future course of action.

The meeting was attended by former union Minister Ram Nivas Mirdha, Delhi Metro MD E Sreedharan, Former Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Maharashtra S Shankar Menon, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court K T S Tulsi, Chairman, HCL Technologies Shiv Nadar, Former Chairman, Railway Board Prakash Narain, Former Chairman, Haryana Electricity Regulation Commission V S Ailawadi and Sports Secretary S Y Quraishi.
