"Don't politicise terrorists attack on RSS headquarters:" Left

New Delhi, June 2 (UNI) Concerned over stepped-up terrorist and Naxalite violence in the country, the Left parties today sought stringent steps by the Centre and state governments to tackle the menace, which posed a serious threat to the nation's unity and social fabric.

Condemning the terrorist attack on the RSS headquarters and unabated violence in the Kashmir Valley, leaders of the CPI, CPI(M) and Forward Bloc, however, asked Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi not to ''politicise and communalise the security issue'' in the larger national interest.

In separate interviews to UNI, the Left leaders also outlined various socio- economic factors responsible for the unabated violence in Jammu and Kashmir, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Maharasthra, Bihar and Jharkhand.

CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan said, ''the Centre should take all measures to foil the conspiracy to disturb communal harmony and peace in the country irrespective of the religious beliefs of the people involved in it.'' Mr Bardhan said Pakistan should look into these developments as it could harm the peace-process with India and added the terrorist camps in POK had not been dismantled till now.

CPI(M) Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha Salim Mohammad said ''terrorists should understand they cannot cow down the spirit of the Indians- the common men of Srinagar, the boatmen, the innocent citizens, hoteliers, transporters or artisans or the visting tourists.'' Mr Mohammad said terrorists had increased their activities in some parts of the country only to spread panic.

''The central and state governments must ensure safety and security for tourists to visit Srinagar and other places. The militants will never succeed in garnering support from the local populace,'' the CPI(M) added.

Mr Bardhan said the spurt in the activities of organisations like the Lashkar-e- Toiba and the Jaish-e-Mohammad is also related to happenings in Pakistan.
