CPI(M) demands inquiry into Srinagar blast

Kolkata, Jun 2 (UNI) The CPI(M) in West Bengal today demanded a thorough probe into Wednesday's grenade attack in Srinagar on tourists from the state.

''There should be thorough inquiry both by the Jammu and Kashmir government and the Centre. I don't think it was an act of any militant organisation,'' party's State Committee Secretary Biman Bose said.

''The reason could be something else,'' he said.

The CPI(M) leader reasoned such attacks did not bode well for the insurgency-hit state as tourism was a big industry there.

He further mentioned that the party has been in constant touch with both West Bengal and Jammu and Kashmir government.

Jammu and Kashmir State Committee Secretary Mohammad Yusuf Tarigami and three CPI(M) MPs Md Salim, Amitava Nandy and Sudhangsu Sil had visited the spot.

''Neither the party nor the state government can advise the tourists not to go to Kashmir. It is a place of natural beauty and they are free to go,'' Mr Bose said.
