Mysore, June 2 (UNI) Former Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and All India Progressive Janata Dal (AIPJD) Leader Siddaramaiah today described the outcome of the Legislative Council elections as a ''lesson to the Janata Dal (Secular)''.

Speaking to reporters here, he said the elections results were on the expected lines. ''However, it is lesson to the JD (S) ...

They thought that money and power made all the difference in the polls. But it went wrong and now they should learn a lesson from this experience.'' In the polls yesterday, the AIPJD, technically still part of the JD (S) in the state Assembly, had voted for the Congress, despite the JD (S) issuing a whip to vote in favour of its candidates.

Mr Siddaramaiah said it was not necessary for the AIPJD to obey the whip since the Council Elections were held on a secret ballot system.

Referring to the notice issued by Assembly Speaker Krishna to him, Mr Siddaramaiah said he would answer to the notice within seven days after consulting legal experts.

To a question, he said if at all the JD (S) wanted to take disciplinary action for anti-party activities, it should initiate it against its party supremo H D Deve Gowda and Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy.
