Cool winds, rain bring down mercury in capital

New Delhi, June 2 (UNI) High velocity winds, accompanied by light showers, welcomed the people of Delhi this morning and brought down the mercury by four degress.

The winds, which the weatherman said are an offshoot of the upper air cyclonic storm originating from Haryana and its neighbouring areas, swept the capital and was followed by light showers at around 0800 hours.

However, the weatherman said the rainfall was largely in traces and limited to some areas of the capital.

The wind and the rain brought about a coolness in the atmosphere which was likely to prevail throughout the day, the met department said.

In fact, the mercury was likely to witness a drop by four to five degrees from the temperature of 41 degree Celsius yesterday.

The weather office has predicted a partly cloudy sky with more rains and thundershowers in some areas of the capital in the next 24 hours.
