New Delhi, Jun 2 (UNI) Anguished at delays in delimiting Assembly constituencies, a parliamentary panel has recommended that the Delimitation Commission complete its mandated task ''as soon as possible.'' The subject figures in the latest Report of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances and Law and Justice on the Law and Justice Ministry's Demand for 2006-07 Grants.

The Report points out that in spite of its recommendations for delimitation of the Assembly constituencies, particularly in states which went to the polls in April-May, the Commission completed the exercise only in Kerala, West Bengal and Pondicherry-- not Assam and Tamil Nadu.

The Committee has stressed completing the delimitation exercise in the Lok Sabha and Assembly constituencies in all the States within the specified timeframe.

The Committee has asked the Ministry to take ''timely action'' for re-adjustment of Lok Sabha constituencies which shall take effect from the date to be specified by the President.
