CM hopes to resume Polavaram project works
Rajahmundry, Jun 2 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today expressed hope of resuming the Polavaram project works, stayed by a court order, within a month or two.
Speaking on the occasion of foundation stone laying function for Rs 550 crore four-lane high level bridge across river Godavari, connecting East and West Godavari districts here, he asked for support from all political parties for such develpmental works .
''Polavaram project work was suspended due to objections from certain areas and it would be resumed after getting a court clearance,'' he added.
The Chief Minister said the project would be a great help for the high landers during the summer and the farmers would be the beneficiaries, he added.
''Measures are on to expedite the Pushkaram work and in the Khariff, and 50,000 acres would be brought under cultivation.
Polvaram project would irrigate East, West, Krishna, Visakhapatnam districts,'' he said.
Dr Reddy also laid the foundation stone for Rs 14.40 crores worth Railway over-bridge in Anaparthy at ILTD road.
He said crop loans would be doubled and interest rate be slashed to nine per cent from fifteen per cent. A subsidy of 1700 crores would be given at seven percent interest rate and cooperative loans would levy five per cent interest rate, he added.
