New Delhi, June 2 (UNI) In a bid to strengthen the Northern Grid, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) today approved investment for the "Northern Region System Strengthening Scheme-V" (NRSSS-V) at a total estimated cost of Rs 721.25 crore with the commissioning schedule of 36 months from the date of investment approval of the project.
"The present grid strengthening scheme in the Northern region has been evolved to strengthen the transmission system in the region and further dispersal of power imported from Eastern region to various beneficiaries of the Northern region," Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi told newspersons after the CCEA meeting.
The transmission scheme would be implemented in Northern region and the proposed transmission line would traverse through the states of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab, the beneficiaries of the project.
The grid strengthening scheme has been evolved to strengthen the transmission system in the Northern region in view of the large quantum of power to be imported from power surplus Eastern region where generation projects like Kahalgaon-II (1500 MW), Barh (1980 MW), North Karanpura (1980 MW) and Maithon RB (1000 MW) are to come up in the near future.
