Breakthrough in bank heist cases

Hyderabad, Jun 2 (UNI) The police today claimed to have achieved a breakthrough in the two bank heist cases here with the arrest of an operative of a Tamil Nadu-based gang.

Police said here today a special team camped at Ramginagar in Tamil Nadu and arrested Saravanan, one of the gang members, when he was proceeding to handover Rs six lakh of the stolen money to Palaniappan who is believed to be the gang leader.

The arrest was made on May 30. On interrogation, Saravanan confessed to the crime and identified Damman Kandan, Karunan, Sridharan, Jayaraman, Vinod, Prakash as the other gang members.

Efforts are on to arrest the remaining accused, they said.

On April 22, unidentified men looted Rs 20 lakh from State Bank of Hyderabad's Dilsuknagar Branch at around 1030 hrs.

Based on CCTV images and investigations, the police got a clue that the Tamil Nadu-based gang could be behind the robbery.

Similarly, the gang looted Rs four lakh from ICICI Bank's Panjagutta Branch on March three using the same modus operandi.

A special police team went to Ramginagar and with the help of informants confirmed that Palaniappan's gang was responsible for the incidents.
