BJP raps MCD Govt for slack progress on Ghazipur Abattoir
New Delhi, June 2 (UNI) The BJP today criticised the Congress government for the slack progress in the construction of the Ghazipur Abattoir despite directions from the Supreme Court to speed up the work.
''Despite directions from the Supreme Court, work on the construction of the abbattoir has not made any progress in the last nine months even though 80 per cent of money for the same has been given to the builder,''MCD member Vijendra Gupta told reporters here.
''The cost of the abattoir was put at Rs 110 crore out of which Rs 87 crore has already been paid to the builder. Despite this barely one third of the work on the abbattoir has been completed,''Mr Gupta said.
He alleged that the delay in the construction of the abattoir had a direct affect on the health of the people of Delhi.
''It puts a question mark on the quality of meat sold by the illegal butcher shops,''Mr Gupta said.
He prayed to the Supreme court to appoint an Amicus curae who could tell the court about the true status of construction of the abattoir.
