Arunachal experiences first wave of floods

Itanagar, June 2 (UNI) Torrential rains since the past five days have disrupted surface communication in three districts of Arunachal Pradesh, as the state experienced the first wave of monsoon floods with all the major rivers and their tributaries in full spate.

High alert has been sounded in Tezu Sadar circle under Lohit district, as all the major, minor rivers and their tributaries are in full spate, disrupting life in Lohit and Anjaw districts following incessant heavy downpour for the last five days, official sources said, adding the district received total rainfall of 478 mtr during the past few days.

The worst hit Hayuliang was cut off from the rest of the country and surface communication between Tezu to Assam via Sonpura and Namsai was snapped completely, while numerous landslides triggered by rains had cut off road link from Tezu to Anjaw.

Deopani river had swelled following the torrential rain, which had delinked Anini, headquaters of Dibang Valley district following heavy landslides beyond Hunli at various points. The restoration may take several days depending upon weather condition. The link between Dibang Valley and Lower Dibang Valley was cut off after the GREF removed the temporary suspension bailey bridge over Deopani due to heavy floods, an official report added from Roing.

All the major, minor rivers and their tributaries are in full spate and low lying areas, particularly Deobeel and Kharbari are inundated by rain water, while the water of Barrang river flowing above danger mark in Chongkham circle submerging many paddy fields.

The wooden bridge on Barrang river was washed away and its water overflowing the national highway between Alubari to Barrang Ghat after entering the Kid Foundation School. Moreover, Dharampur village under Lekang circle was cut off. The water level of Noadihing, Lohit, Tezu Nala, Dura Nala, Dening Nala, Tabang Nala under Tezu sadar circle may touch danger level any time.
