Annual plan of Rs 94.45 crore approved for Jammu
Jammu, June 2 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has approved an outlay of Rs 94.45 crore for current fiscal to the Jammu district besides additional Rs 11 crore for augmenting water and power supply in the district.
Chairing cabinet-cum-Jammu District Development Board meeting here yesterday, Mr Azad said one new playfield would be developed in each constituency besides setting up one health sub-centre and two animal husbandry sub-centres in all the 13 constituencies of the district. He said stress would be laid on maintenance of power assets for which Rs 50 lakh would be spent. Similarly, allocation for medicines too would be hiked, he added.
Announcing the additional outlay of 11 crore for various sectors to facilitate the people of Jammu, the Chief Minister said Rs 2.61 crore would be spent for streamlining power supply, Rs 4 crore for flood control measures, over Rs 4 crore for augmenting water supply in both rural and urban areas and Rs 35 lakh for irrigation. He announced another Rs 1.33 crore for purchase of nine new water tankers for the district.
Transport Minister Mangat Ram Sharma, Agriculture Minister Abdul Aziz Zargar, PHE and Irrigation minister Qazi Mohammad Afzal, Minister of State for R B Gulchain Singh Charak, Minister of State for Rural Development Babu Singh and Jammu mayor also participated in the meeting.
The Chief Minister laid stress on enhancing irrigation potential to increase food grain production by optimally tapping the potential.
He also announced the setting up of a 5-member cabinet sub-committee which would suggest short and long-term measures for bringing more and more areas under irrigation to increase production of paddy, wheat, maize and pulses particularly in Jammu and Kathua districts that could become granaries to suffice the food grain requirements of the state.
