Amritsar at 43.2 degrees celsius, temperatures dip in region

Chandigarh, June 2 (UNI) Hot weather conditions prevailed in and around Amritsar which recorded 43.2 degrees celsius even as temperatures dropped at many places in north-west India today.

The mercury further soared at Amrirsar, hovering three degrees above normal, turning it the hottest place in Punjab. However, the temperature declined at Patiala and Ludhiana, recording 37.0 degrees, four degrees below normal, and 39.0 degrees, two degrees below normal respectively.

In Haryana, Hisar was the hottest place, recording the maximum at 42.8 degrees. But Ambala and Karnal recorded a sharp decrease in the temperature hovering six degrees below normal.

The mercury dipped to 35.0 degrees at Ambala and 34.2 degrees at Karnal. Ambala measured 0.2 mm rain.

Temperature also declined in Himachal Pradesh where Solang Nullah, near Manali, experienced rainfall.

State capital Shimla recorded the maximum temperature at 25.3 degrees against 27.4 degrees recorded yesterday. The mercury fell to 32.9 degrees at Sundernagar in Mandi district and to 22.1 degrees at Kalpa in tribal Kinnaur district.

Chandigarh and its adjoining areas in Punjab and Haryana also recorded a drastic fall in the temperature. The city, which was lashed by high speed winds for a brief period, recorded 34.0 degrees celsius, six degrees below normal.

The Weather Office here predicted moderate to rather heavy rain or thundershowers at many places in Himachal Pradesh and light to moderate rain or thundershowers at few places in Punjab and Haryana during the next 24 hours.

Hailstorm or thundersquall with speed exceeding 65 km per hour is likely to occur at isolated places in the region during the period.
