AIADMK poll debacle costs 105 lives

Chennai, Jun 2 (UNI) The number of people who have either taken their life or died of shock following the AIADMK's defeat in the May eight Assembly elections has crossed the 100 mark, the party said.

In a press release here, former Chief Minister and AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa appealed to party cadre to be courageous and confident as the electoral defeat was only a temporary setback.

Stating 105 people have died of shock and sorrow since the party's debacle in the elections, the AIADMK supremo said she was deeply distressed and anguished over the continuing occurrence of such tragic incidents.

There was no need to be shocked or grieved as the party had a very bright future, she said and urged the cadre to discharge their duties in a constructive manner.

Ms Jayalalithaa also announced a compensation of Rs one lakh each to the bereaved families on behalf of the party.
