4 killed, 12 injured in accident

Sultanpur, June 2 (UNI) Four people, including two minors, were killed and 12 others injured when an overcrowded jeep collided with a truck in Kudwar area of the district today.

Police said the incident occurred around 0230 hrs when the jeep tried to overtake a truck on Lucknow-Varanasi highway near Aliganj.

The victims were part of a marriage party en route to Itwa, Bihar from Barabanki district in Uttar Pradesh.

The deceased were identified as Suman (28) -- the groom's sister, Suraj (2), Mulchand (15) and Dinesh Maurya (35).

The injured were undergoing treatment at the district hospital.

The marriage was cancelled following the incident.
