Saudi King donates 30 mn dollars to Jamia university

Dubai, June 1 : Saudi Arabian King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud has donated 30 million dollars to Jamia Millia Islamia university in New Delhi for construction of a building to house a library and a research centre.

The building, to be named after the King, would mark expansion plans of the university to establish a dental college, a centre for theoretical physics, basic sciences, physiotherapy and a media centre.

Jamia Millia Islamia University Vice-Chancellor Professor Mushirul Hasan, who is accompanying a high-level delegation to Saudi Arabia led by Union Human Resource Minister Arjun Singh, disclosed the university plans while addressing the Riyadh chapter of Jamia Millia Islamia Alumni Association (JAMIA), according to news report here today.

Another delegation led by University Grants Commission chairman Professor Sukhdev Thorat is scheduled to meet a group of Saudi businessmen today to explore the possibility of setting up an Information and Communication Technology Centre of Excellence in Riyadh with India's technical collaboration.

The Jamia Millia Islamia University had awarded the King an honorary doctorate for his contribution to peace and promotion of Indo-Saudi ties during his visit to the country early this year.
