Rains destroy Rs 60 lakh worth of mangoes in Junagadh
Rajkot, June 1 (UNI) Pre-monsoon showers here have completely damaged Rs 60 lakh worth of ''Kesar'' mangoes which were packed and kept in the open at Talala Gir here.
The Saurashtra region has been experiencing light to heavy showers since last evening.
Moderate to heavy showers continued to lash Junagadh district.
Following the rains, the mangoes were completely damaged, a report from Junagadh said.
As many as one lakh boxes were affected. Each box contained ten kg of mango valued at about Rs 60 and the total loss is pegged at around Rs 60 lakh.
Una and Girgadhada in Junagadh district recorded 65 mm and 40 mm of rainfall respectively while other parts of the region received rainfall ranging between five mm to fifteen mm till noon, the report from Junagadh said.
Rajkot city recorded 8.8 mm rain fall till 1430 hrs today, the weather office here said.
Reports of light to heavy showers were also received from some parts of Bhavnagar and Amreli districts.
