Radhakrishnan unanimously elected Speaker of new Pondy House

Pondicherry, June 1 (UNI) Congress members Mr R Radhakrishnan and Mr A V Sridharan were today unanimously elected Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the new Pondicherry assembly.

Mr A V Sridharan, who was the pro tem Speaker, announced Mr Radhakrishnan was the only one who applied for the post and declared him elected.

He asked Chief Minister N Rangasamy and leader of the Opposition to lead Mr Radhakrishnan to the Speaker's podium. As the leader of the Opposition was yet to be decided, Mr Rangasamy alone led Mr Radhakrishnan to the podium.

Later, Mr Radhakrishnan announced the unanimous election of Mr Sridharan as Deputy Speaker. Several members, including the Chief Minister greeted the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker.
