'Purchase of P3C Orion shelved for time being'
Pune, May 31: Chief Of Naval Staff Admiral Arun Prakash today said, India has already raised a global tender for acquisition of maritime reconaissance ship in case talks with the US fail regarding the purchase agreement of P3C'Orion'.
Addressing mediapersons after reviewing the POP of the 110th NDA course, the Admiral said for the time being the purchase has been shelved as India has raised certain objections with the US regarding terms of purchase of P3C 'Orion' but global tenders have been invited for the same.
Replying to a query about holding exercises with neighbours and other countries, the Admiral said exercises have been held with various countries and presently Defence Minister Pranab Mukherji who is in China will be negotiating with his Chinese counterparts about holding a joint exercise.
When asked about establishing a new Naval Academy in Kerala, the Admiral informed that plans have been executed and this will meet the shortfall in the Navy. The Academy will produce officers of high calibre and meet the requirements of Navy.
