Lalu inaugurates telemedicine centre in Patna
Patna, June 1 (UNI) Railway Minister Lalu Prasad today inaugurated a tele medicine centre at the railway hospital under Danapur division here.
The centre is linked to the Tamil Nadu based Perambur hospital of the Indian Railways.
Inaugurating the Tele Medicine Centre, Mr. Prasad exhorted the medical fraternity to work hard to provide succour to the suffering masses. He also held discussions with doctors associated with the Perambur hospital through video conferencing. Doctors of Perambur gave medical advice to a patient admitted to the Danapur hospital.
During the counselling, the doctors detected that the patient was suffering from rheumatic heart ailment. She was advised balooning therapy for which she was suggested to get admission in the Perambur hospital for four days. The doctors assured her that she needed no surgical intervention and there was no threat to her life.
The Tele Medicine centre at Patna is the second of its kind in the Indian Railways.
Briefing about the centre, Chief Public Relations officer A K Chandra said it was the use of electronic communication and information technologies to provide health care when distance did separate medical specialists from the patient.
Dr K K Gokhle of Konkan Railway Corporation said the concept of tele medicine could also be used for promotional and educational support in health care such as distance learning in health, spreading awareness about AIDS, maternal and child nutritional and immunisation issues.
