Srinagar, Jun 1 (UNI) A top commander of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM), expert in making Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and a Border Security Force (BSF) constable were among four people killed in Jammu and Kashmir in the past 24 hours.

Official sources said a HM commander Ayub Naik alias Waseem was killed in an encounter at Amirabad Tral in Pulwama district of South Kashmir last night.

The encounter ensued after a search party was attacked by the militants, sources said.

Six houses, three cow sheds, two kothars and a shop were gutted after security forces allegedly fired mortar shells during the encounter.

Sources said immediately after the cordon was lifted hundreds of people, mostly women took to streets today, in protest against security forces for damaging the property.

The demonstrators also alleged that they were confined to their houses by the security forces for two days. They further said more than a dozen persons were tortured by the security forces during the search operation.

A BSF spokesman said a BSF jawan Altaf Hussain was killed and another head constable Kashmiri Lal and a police constable were injured in the encounter.

He said the encounter started on May 29 and was still going on.

Spoksman said Naik was an expert in making IED and was involved in several militancy-related incidents in south Kashmir.
