DMK MPs fear threat to Maran's life from Vaiko
Chennai, Jun 1 (UNI) DMK Members of Parliament have complained to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh that party MP and Union Minister Dayanidhi Maran faced threat to his life from MDMK General Secretary Vaiko and sought increased security for him and his family members.
In a memorandum to the Prime Minister, a copy of which was made available to the media here, the MPs said ''we have strong reasons to believe that Mr Vaiko, leader of the MDMK, has plans to eliminate Mr Dayanidhi Maran and his family members.'' After quitting the DMK-led Democratic Progressive Alliance (DPA), Mr Vaiko, while campaigning for the AIADMK-led front, had launched a tirade against Mr Maran and his family members and threatened him from going ahead with his electioneering, they alleged.
When Mr Maran ignored his threat and exposed Mr Vaiko, calling him a traitor, the MDMK leader, under the guise of election campaign, sowed hatred in the minds of MDMK and AIADMK cadre against Mr Maran.
As the AIADMK-MDMK combine was defeated in the Assembly elections, Mr Vaiko might take revenge to settle personal scores outside the state of Tamil Nadu, the MPs apprehended.
''Though the Centre has provided security, we feel the same is not sufficient and should be enhanced forthwith,'' they said.
