Conference of World Committee on Tourism Ethics in B'lore
Bangalore, Jun 1 (UNI) The two-day conference of the Fourth Annual Meeting of the World Committee on Tourism Ethics (WCTE) of the United Nations, will be held here from tomorrow to discuss contentious issues on ethics in global tourism.
Briefing newspersons, UNWTO Deputy Secretary General pecial Advisor Taleb Rifai and Special Advisor to the UNWTO Secretary General Dawid de Villiers said the meeting would discuss, among other things, global code of ethics for tourism. As many as 20 overseas tourism board members were expected to attend the meeting.
Issues such as setting up a task force to protect children from sexual exploitation and establishment of an advisory body to the committee would also be debated, they added.
They said this was the first time such a meeting was being held in an Asian country and India was chosen considering its tremendous growth potential in the sector.
They said the WTO served as a global forum for tourism policy issues and practical source of tourism know-how. The Global Code of Ethics for Tourism was a comprehensive set up of principles adopted recently with a purpose to guide stakeholders in tourism development.
