Chattisgarh boys and girls enter semis

Ludhiana, June 1 (UNI) Fleet-footed Chattisgarh boys and girls continued to maintain their winning spree as the defending champion stormed into the semi-finals of the 57th Dhanoa Junior National Basketball Championship today being played at the Guru Nanak Indoor Stadium here.

Chattisgarh boys scored from all angles and their attack was spearheaded by S T Murli and Kiranpal as they outclassed Tamil Nadu by 112-62 points after leading 49-20 points at half time. Kiranpal sank 27 points with included six three pointers. Murli topscored with 34 points.

Kiranpal and Murli kept the scoreboard ticking on a fast pace and the Chattisgarh duo kept the Tamil Nadu boys on their toes throughout the match. Murli with his deft passing and drive-in gave Tamil Nadu a harrowing time. Pratham and T R S Rao contributed 19 and 14 points, respectively.

Prem (12), Rama (11) and Nataraj (11) were the main scorers for the losers.

The Chattisgarh girls were in held the spotlight as they carried too many guns against Madhya Pradesh whom they routed by 103-46 points after leading 46-28 at half time.

Consistent scorers for Chattisgarh Pushpa (33) and Kanwaljeet (20) never allowed Madhya Pradesh girls to settle down as they scored at will. Akansha made 11 points. For the losers, Prerna (19) and Ritu (9) put up some fight to reduce the margin.

Girls: Chattisgarh (Pushpa 33, Kanwaljeet 20, Akansha 11) bt Madhya Pradesh (Prerna 19, Ritu 9) by 103-46. Half Time 46-28.

Classification for 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th places: Boys: Chandigarh (Gurvinder 23, Amanjot 23, Mukesh 18) bt Jharkhand (Jagjeet 27, Mohd Arif 23) by 89-77. Half Time 47-47.

Kerala (Rahul 23, Jovin 16, Nirmal 15) bt Maharashtra (Shoeb 13, Aniketh 8) by 79-50. Half Time 41-29.

Girls: Uttar Pradesh (Pratima 12, Ranjan 11) bt Andhra Pradesh (Radhika 8) by 53-19. Half Time 30-11.

Karnataka (Snehaoruta 13, Deepa 11, Shikha 10) bt Orissa (Beranika 9, Jitini 6) by 61-29. Half Time 35-13.
