New Delhi, Jun 1 (UNI) Women And Child Development Secretary Reva Nayyar today underlined the need to set up a nodal cell for prevention of trafficking in the Ministry of Home Affairs which would act as a focal point for coordination, networking, and sharing of information between the States.

The Secretary, who was chairing the Central Advisory Committee to Combat Trafficking of Women and Children here, said that setting up of the Regional Task Force to operationalise the SARCC Convention to prevent prostitution among women and children was a step forward in tackling the problem in the region.

She drew attention to the fact that trafficking of women and children for commercial sex exploitation not only involved the violation of human rights but also was one of the prime causes for HIV/AIDS in the country. Therefore, the measures for control of HIV/AIDS should work in tandem with measures for combating trafficking.

Today's meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministries of Home Affairs and External Affairs, the National Commission for Women, Central Social Welfare Board, Secretaries and DIGs of Police from different State Governments, prominent NGOs and international agencies.

The meeting examined the rising incidence of trafficking in the country and shared the experiences and problems faced by the different State Governments in combating it.
