Water from Periyar, Vaigai dams to be released on June one
Chennai, May 31 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu government today ordered release of water from Periyar and Vaigai dams for irrigation from June one.
An official release here said water would be released from Periyar and Vaigai dams for 120 days at the rate of 200 cusecs and 900 cusecs respectively.
The release of water from Periyar dam would benefit 14,707 acres of land at Cumbam valley, Uthamapalayam, Theni and Bodi areas in Theni district, where cultivation was taken up in two seasons. The release of water from June one would help the farmers to take up the cultivation in the first season, the release said.
Similarly, water would be released from Vaigai dam for the first season cultivation in 45,041 acres of land in Nilakottai, Vadipatti and Madurai north areas in Dindigul and Madurai districts, the release added.
