VP Shetty of IDBI is the new Chairman of IBA

Mumbai, May 31 (UNI) The Managing Committee of the Indian Banks' Association (IBA) at its meeting held here today elected VP Shetty, Chairman&Managing Director, IDBI, as its Chairman for the term 2006-07.

A IDBI release issued here today said Mr Shetty started his banking career from Canara Bank in 1968 and worked there for four years. Thereafter he moved to Vijaya Bank in 1973.

He worked in various capacities in rural, semi-urban and metropolitan branches as Branch Head. He was heading major Operational divisions at Mumbai, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Kolkata and Delhi and also overseas branch.

He is presently serving various boards of Financial Institutions and Committees constituted by RBI/Govt of India. He was also the recipient of 'Banker of the Year - 2003' Award from the Business Standard Group.
