Thane put on alert amid forecast of heavy rains ahead
Thane, May 31 (UNI) Following the likelihood of heavy rainfall in the next 48 hours, Thane district Collector Nandkumar Jantre has put on alert the entire district and has asked fishermen not to take to sea.
Mr Jantre told UNI here today that the officials at each taluka level have been ordered to co-ordinate the preparedness in case of any eventuality.
Thane Municipal Commissioner Sanjay Sethi held an emergency meeting of the officials of the corporation here today and initiated an emergency preparedness plan.
After the meeting, Mr Sethi said all those areas affected in the last year's floods and the other vulnerable sites have been identified and senior officials have been deployed to take care of the situation. The emergency control room has been put into action rightaway.
Taking lessons from last year's mishap, this year it has been decided to make available the relief and rescue measures like boats and JCB cranes at local level itself and in far-flung places like Diva, Mumbra and others, he said.
The officials have been deployed with immediate effect to these areas and would monitor the situation round-the-clock, he added.
