South Korea coach tells striker to shoot on sight
SINGAPORE, May 31: South Korea coach Dick Advocaat has told striker Park Chu-young to shoot on sight in Friday's World Cup warmup against Norway in Oslo.
The slender FC Seoul forward has been banging in the goals at club level and notched some important strikes for South Korea at the youth and full international stage, but Advocaat feels the 20-year-old is still shot shy.
''Coach Advocaat has told me to shoot a lot more,'' South Korea's Yonhap news agency quoted Park as saying today.
''He stressed that I should always be ready to take a shot no matter the situation.'' Park looks likely to start on the left wing against Norway in a three-pronged attack with Lee Chun-soo on the right and Ahn Jung-hwan through the middle.
''Physique-wise Norway have the advantage, but if we are lively with our movement then we will be fine.'' Park, who has been recommended to Manchester United by former Busan boss Ian Porterfield, also said that while he would be going all out to score he had also been working hard to improve his overall game.
''I've been talking a lot to (Tottenham Hotspur left back) Lee Young-pyo about defensive positioning,'' he said.
''We're going to talk until I have a really good understanding of what defending is all about.'' South Korea, who are preparing for the World Cup at Glasgow Rangers's training complex Murray Park, begin their Group G campaign against Togo on June 13, followed by France (June 18) and Switzerland (June 23).
