Rs 225 crore for water schemes in South Haryana
Tosham, Bhiwani, May 31 (UNI) A sum of Rs 225 crore is being spent for equitable distribution of water in the Southern Haryana districts of Mahendergarh, Bhiwani and Rewari, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said today.
Another Rs 45.61 crore would be spent for modernisation of lift irrigation schemes in these districts, Mr Hooda said while addressing a public meeting here today. The rally was organised by Minister of State for Forests Kiran Chaudhary in her home constituency.
Mr Hooda said 43 new schemes of irrigation had been taken up and work on five such schemes had already started to ensure water at tail ends.
He said the Hansi-Bhutana Main Link Canal was being constructed at a cost of Rs 260 crore to ensure equitable distribution of canal water. This canal would be completed within one-and-a-half-years.
Mr Hooda paid rich tributes to former Chief Minister Bansi Lal, who hailed from the area and described as an architect of the modern Haryana.
He said Mr Bansi Lal implemented a number of schemes for the development of irrigation facilities and power generation and created employment opportunities for the youth.
He also paid tributes to former Minister Surinder Singh, son of Mr Bansi Lal, who died in a helicopter crash last year.
Referring to a demand of the local people, he said Tosham would be declared a sub-division after the removal of a restriction imposed by the Delimitation Commission in this regard.
He said that if adequate land was provided by the local authorities, a stadium would be set up to commemorate the memory of Mr Surinder Singh and a women college would be established and named after Mr Bansi Lal.
